Vacation Bible School Pictures 2013

A few wonderful pictures from a great week. The theme was “Go Tell it on the Mountain!” where we were joined by 75+ kids and 30+ volunteers for 5 days of learning God’s promises.

Pentecost Picnic May 19, 2013

The Youth Group, with the help of the parents, held a delicious picnic following the worship service. The pulled pork BBQ was donated by Shawn’s Smokehouse and the chicken was donated by The Culpeper Cattle Company. The free will offering collected will help pay expenses for Synod Assembly and other youth trips. Due to chilly weather we held our picnic in the Fellowship Hall and still were able to enjoy an indoor game of corn hole.

Holy Week at St. Luke Lutheran Church

  • Palm Sunday, March 24: 10am Worship.  Gather in the Social Hall for our procession with palms through the parking lot (or building, if it is raining).   Please try to arrive a bit early so that we can begin our worship on time. We will then hear the reading of the passion from many voices.
  • Maundy Thursday, March 28: 7pm Service of Holy Communion.  The service will conclude with the stripping of the altar as we journey to the cross.
  • Good Friday, March 29: 5pm Service in the Park Our children are invited to join Little Fork Episcopal Church at Yowell Meadow Park for a “Way of the Cross” for families.  An interactive dialog will lead us through the park and follow Jesus’ last hours.  More details to come about this exciting opportunity.
Good Friday, March 29: 7pm Service at St. Luke A service of Tenebrae (light and darkness).  The story of the Passion of Christ will be interspersed with verses of hymns.
  • Easter Sunday, March 31: 8:30am  Breakfast, 10am Service of Holy Communion.

Warming Shelter Volunteers

St. Luke Members pitched in for a week for the Emergency Homeless Shelter in Culpeper.  They provided overnight chaperones, cooked dinner, set out breakfast, and even stayed longer to keep the shelter all day during the storm!

The Warming Shelter is organized by the Culpeper Co. Ministerial Association.  So far they have served 80 individuals in our community this year for at least one night of accommodation.  They are operated entirely by volunteers, donations, and the generosity of those in our community.

Happy 1st Anniversary of Ordination, Pastor Kate!

St. Luke had a surprise cake and coffee reception for Pastor Kate for her 1st Anniversary of Ordination this past Sunday. It was also a good opportunity to welcome Pastor Kate and Jon back from their Continuing Education trip to Israel.

We also got wonderful pictures of some of our St. Luke’s kids and youth! Check out that joy!

Christmas L.A.F.F. Luncheon 2012

We had a full house at Jane Griffith’s for our Christmas L.A.F.F. Luncheon on Wednesday December 19th. We enjoyed a feast of good food, sang Christmas songs and played Christmas Bingo. Everyone was a winner that day.

Children’s Christmas Program

On Sunday December 16th, St. Luke’s children gave their performance of “It wouldn’t be Christmas without…” Following their show and the worship service we all gathered around for hot cocoa, cookies and good fellowship.
