Lenten Evening Activities Canceled for 2/24

There is a watch for some dangerous storms this afternoon and evening.  Due to the timing (peaking between 4-7pm) and the severity (potential for tornadoes and hail), we have decided to cancel this evening’s activities.

Please stay safe and take this opportunity to pray at home with your family.

Here is a simple service to do by yourself or with your household.  Take turns to read to each other.

Gathering:

We begin in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Prayer:

Eternal lover of our wayward race,
we praise you for your ever-open door.
You open your arms to accept us
even before we turn to meet your welcome; you invite us to forgiveness even before our hearts are softened to repentance.
Hold before us the image of our humanity made new, that we may live in Jesus Christ, the model and the pioneer of your new creation. Amen.

1 Corinthians 13:12

For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then we will see face to face. Now I know only in part; then I will know fully, even as I have been fully known.

Psalm 36:1-2, 7-9

Transgression speaks to the wicked
deep in their hearts;
there is no fear of God
before their eyes.
For they flatter themselves in their own eyes
that their iniquity cannot be found out and hated.
How precious is your steadfast love, O God!
All people may take refuge in the shadow of your wings.
They feast on the abundance of your house,
and you give them drink from the river of your delights.
For with you is the fountain of life;
in your light we see light.

Mark 8:22-25

Jesus Cures a Blind Man at Bethsaida

They came to Bethsaida. Some people brought a blind man to him and begged him to touch him. He took the blind man by the hand and led him out of the village; and when he had put saliva on his eyes and laid his hands on him, he asked him, ‘Can you see anything?’ And the man looked up and said, ‘I can see people, but they look like trees, walking.’Then Jesus laid his hands on his eyes again; and he looked intently and his sight was restored, and he saw everything clearly.

Discussion:

Why do you think that the man couldn’t see clearly at first?  What was different the second time?

When have you felt like you couldn’t see clearly in your life?  What did it feel like to be lost?

Who in your life needs healing this week?  How can we pray for each other?

Prayers of the People:

Take turns praying for one another, sharing the concerns that have already been lifted up.

Final Blessing:

May God bless you this week, that you may see clearly.  Amen.

Dismissal:

Go in peace, serve the Lord.  Thanks be to God.

(You may share a sign of peace with one another to end the service)
